Statement

I've been immersing myself in a specific form of mixed media art - using textile waste and beads glued on canvas (not stitched) as a way of expressing myself. I specifically use scrap from a Scottish woven baby wrap company called Oscha, the fabric is high quality, vivid and woven in the UK, and I felt a strong emotional connection to not let even the small pieces go to waste. I sometime use pieces of retired baby wraps, which means the material itself has a history of emotion and human contact. I find the reflective beads lift out the colour and texture of the fabric and I can put it together in new and interesting ways. It brings great satisfaction to put together "broken" bits into something beautiful and sometimes abstract. Each fabric has a specific name and blend. I'm self-taught but I've always enjoyed using a variety of mediums, doing evening classes, I particularly found acrylics useful and sometimes add acrylics as an element for detail.Having the tangible feel of fabric in my hands helps me express what I can't in other mediums. My three favourite artists are Van Gogh, Turner and Frida Kahlo, with Andy Goldsworthy following closely.
