Statement

My art practice typically consists of oil painting on prepared paper or canvas, and is an exploration and study of everyday objects, my local surroundings, the people who inhabit them and in particular their physical relationships to each other. I am most often lost in the process of painting. A period of introspection and the pursuit of personal passions has led to looking more closely at the intimate forms and spatial harmonies present in everyday life. The painting process is an experimental conversation, and despite going to art school in Dundee in the 1990’s I’ve only began oil painting in recent years. I’ve been lucky enough to exhibit in The Mall Galleries (ING Discerning Eye), and the Glasgow Fine Art Prize exhibition (most recently), and before that several other smaller shows and exhibitions both in real life and virtually.
I very much enjoy the elevation process that can come from placing a subject of seemingly insignificant value or interest into the spotlight of a painters lense. My pursuit of excellence and improvement seems unending.
