Statement
I am a self-taught artist originally from Zimbabwe, living most of my life in South Africa and currently residing in Scotland. The subject and style of my work is an ever evolving practice with experimental beginnings, continually motivated by the fragility of wildlife and nature and the need for conservation. This year I was selected as a finalist in the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, Wildlife Artist of the year 2024, Earth’s Wild Beauty Category. My current work explores the celebration and beauty of nature, energy and shifting light. Working mainly in oils, I enjoy the versatility and richness this medium has to offer, often blending directly on canvas, bringing awareness and momentum to each piece through a sense of depth and atmosphere. When I paint it’s a very tactile experience, using a diverse array of tools, from old and new brushes, to my fingers, sponges and the occasional palette knife. I believe wildlife and nature has the ability to transcend barriers of language, politics and culture, symbolizing love, femininity, friendship, gentleness and strength and moments of nostalgia - connecting people across generations. Colour, rhythm and use of space on the canvas is universal across all my compositions.
