Statement
I grew up in Warwickshire, where I would wander the fields and woods searching for wildflowers. I loved drawing and painting, spending pocket money on brushes and pencils. I then studied fine art at Birmingham Art College. Both large dramatic and small intimate landscapes excite me, whether it’s the majestic Highlands or a secluded forest, the changing patterns of leaves, infinite skies, and moving oceans. My passion for wild landscapes takes me to Scotland three times a year to walk in the mountains and forests. Each painting presents a unique challenge. While I usually paint in oils, I enjoy experimenting with various paints and techniques. Over the years, I’ve held numerous solo and shared exhibitions, with many of my paintings in private collections. In 2000, I was named “Landscape Artist of the Year” by the SAA for my painting “The Closing Day.” In 2022, I was a finalist in the “British Art Awards,” with my painting “In a Corner of the Car Park the Poppies Still Grow” exhibited at the Oxo Gallery in London. Recently, in 2023, I was named “Abstract Artist of the Year,” and my resin painting “Earth Tapestry” was showcased at the Espacio Gallery in London.
