Hazel Blue

Statement

In my arts practice, I work prefer the fluidity and colour intensity of oils, but occasionally I work in acrylics. The supports I favour are board, canvas and linen which provide firm surfaces which assist in creating variations of texture. I enjoy experimenting with other surfaces, like metal and paper. Mark-making and colour are important elements in my in my predominantly naturalistic, figurative work. The tonal variations made possible by drawing with pencil and charcoal on paper is compelling.

The figure and portraiture are recurring subjects for me. I try to observe people closely and to portray the human condition. I prefer to work from life and in Light in the Cave, is from a photograph I took in Antony Gormley’s “Cave” at the RA.
