Kathryn McFarlane

Statement

I’m a Scottish contemporary abstract artist who uses colour as a means of self-expression. My artistic vision is shaped by my fascination with the interplay between colour, shape, pattern, and texture. The influence of my early training as a designer is evident in my work.

After graduating with an Honours Degree in Graphic Design from the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, I began my career in graphic design and scientific illustration. Following a subsequent career change into the field of International Trade, my true passion for painting finally led me to become a full time artist.

I received the Visual Artist and Craft Maker Award in 2022 for a course on colour and to develop a new body of work. I’m a council member of the Aberdeen Artists Society.

My work was recently exhibited at the Visual Arts Scotland, Borders Art Fair; Spring Exhibition, Six Foot Gallery; Spring Exhibition, Firefly Gallery, and Colours at Aberdeen Artists Society. Various works are held in private collections throughout the UK and America.
