This painting comes from a deceptively cold and bracing day at Longniddry Bents, blowing away cobwebs. I was struck by the strong shadows of the rocks, the reflections of the brilliant blue sky and the texture of the water channelling through wet sand. Sketches and colour notes made on the day were used as references some time later. I tried to capture the feeling of wet sand through strong brush marks and a restricted colour palette.
