Hebridean Home of the Hawk
The Hebridean Isle of Harris has many glorious sights to offer but none quite so amazing as that of a golden eagle hovering, fishing for supper, over the beautiful technicolour waters that surround this coastline. Local residents tell me that this is not at all an unusual sight as many hawks, including the Golden Eagle, live in the cliffs throughout these remote islands. I deliberately avoided the cliche of including an eagle in this painting; I wanted to convey the exceptional environment in which wildlife thrives whilst still offering hospitality to awe-inspired artists and walkers alike. The sky always seems to be more immense here in any weather. This was painted on a recent, all too brief field trip in spring.
