“Gruts for tea”
The form is an assemblage made from composite materials and painted with oils and acrylics. Its inspiration comes from a song poem by the late Ivor Cutler the Scottish artist and performer. Cutler recites a story about a child who is offered a meal of an unspecified fare by a conscientious but rather unimaginative father. The child rejects the dinner and dismisses it repeatedly regardless of the father’s pleas to eat it. The implication for me is that ‘we are what we eat’ and the child’s rejection reflects the individual’s desire to break away from the restrictive system that is imposed upon us by society
