Old Teshima buiding with noren curtains
While on holiday to Japan last October, I visited Teshima Island: exciting destination for contemporary art. Walking around the island, one will see many of these old buildings. The noren curtains were an additional extra. Noren curtains were traditionally used on doorways to protect the house from wind and dust. Later shops used them to advertise what lay inside. Purple noren curtrains were a sign of debt. I felt these fitted well to the front of this building.
