Statement
Alex is a Scottish, figurative painter working almost exclusively in oil paint.
His work explores identity, hierarchies, patriotism and body politics .
The result often depicts romantic and nihilistic conclusions in a single suspended moment.
He works exclusively in oil because it ties him to 500 years of figure painting. In this rich history you can see themes which are repeated, are continuously relevant in modern civilization, and ripe for parody.
He has exhibited extensively in galleries throughout Scotland for over 10 years, including at the Royal Scottish Academy Annual Exhibition, A finalist at the Art Renewal Centre's Annual Salon and an award winner at the Paisley Art Instiitute.
