Statement
I am a fairly new artistic creative who primarily uses acrylic paint on gel plates to create prints and canvas.
I studied Fashion Business at Glasgow Caledonian University however, after graduating with a 2.1, my health condition deteriorated and I was unsure of my art capabilities.
It wasn't until I joined Project Ability that I was truly able to experiment with different mediums and find out what methods I enjoy. Through this I was able to finally appreciate the fun of creating art whereas uni was so particular and perfect.
It was also interesting as my health affected my fine motor abilities, so seeing how I would create anything wasn't clear. Turns out it's much more fun and you get to be more creative.
After trying the straightforward method of drawing with pencils, which did not go well, I began thinking beyond what I knew. This included oil pastels, soft pastels, watercolours, silk paints and then acrylics.
My tutor then suggested some processes for using this kind of paint and gel plate printing sparked interest. I was able to experiment with this format and found an esthetic which I favoured.
I then transferred this to canvas to create statement pieces!
