Rashikkha Ra Iyer

Statement

The persistence of child marriage practices in certain societies
prompted the artist to create this painting, advocating for efforts
to eliminate forced marriages and genital mutilation. The painting
features a woman’s and a man’s face in the form of traditional
Indian dances—the one on the right depicting Kathakali, a rich
South Indian dance-storytelling form, and the one on the left
portraying Theyyam, a ritualistic dance from Northern Kerala.
The artist employs the metaphor of these faces and art forms to
symbolize gender, cultural, and racial equality, highlighting the
importance of minority representation. The artwork envisions
a world of gender, social, and economic equality, ultimately
contributing to universal justice
