Statement

I’m Heather. I have a Gourock based business, Hez Design where I create bespoke sterling silver jewellery.

My other creative practice involves making collage inspired by my surroundings and local history. The changing moods of the sky and the River Clyde influence my choice of colours and materials I use in these works.

My painting style has developed and evolved over the years moving from oils to delicate watercolour paintings to historic architectural drawings. Most recently, I’ve become immersed in collage and this work is inspired by my love of music, Scotland, aspects of pop art and the works of John Byrne, Rhed Fawell, Grayson Perry and Alec Galloway.

The use colour is important as is the positioning of the elements I use that includes acrylic paint, paper and fabric. As a silversmith my knowledge of precision in jewellery making also influences my work and I subtly include a small gem in each piece, so look out for a wee bit of sparkle!

As a silversmith I thought it only right to also showcase a piece of my jewellery and what more fitting than the Cross of Lorraine necklace as works exhibited are themed on The Wonderful Clyde.
