Statement

I create abstract artworks with colorful impasto in various mediums, primarily in oil on canvas. Inspired by Joan Mitchell’s approach to representing emotions in color, I visually express my suppressed emotions on canvas, similar to writing a story. I start by selecting a color palette first, then emphasizing them with deliberate brushstrokes and movements across the surface. I prefer to work in series to illustrate the change in how I feel about the topic I am expressing.  Sometimes beautiful, sometimes painful, my art is often a reflection of the pressure in today’s work life. Provoking similar emotions in others, my paintings act as mirrors to the viewer’s inner selves, giving them permission to understand, surface and express their own feelings.
