Statement
I am a landscape inspired painter based in central Scotland. It is this location, my emotional connection with the environment and love of painting that drives my work.
Recording the landscapes I visit in my sketchbook, on my phone and in my head is the basis for all my work and commissions. I repeatedly draw and paint the same scenes, looking to capture how the different elements: trees, water, and sky, alter depending on time, our mood, perspective, or the ever shifting weather. It is this repetition that can gradually reveal a hidden structure to a landscape that we might not see on initial observation. Patterns, textures and heightened colour all play an important part in producing my paintings. How we find a place in the countryside interests me and this is often included in my paintings hinted at with colour or more structured marks.
