Statement

John is an artist who has lived in Port Glasgow for forty-three years. He worked for fifteen years teaching art in Inverclyde and Renfrewshire secondary schools. He has exhibited work locally and is presently a member of the Glasgow Print Studio, specialising in screen printing and digital images, He has exhibited and sold work through the Print Studio shop. At present, John is interested in working on the borders of screen printing and mixed media (watercolour, graphite dust, crayon acrylic paint). He mixes figurative and abstract images in bright, often garish colours using threatening forms that attempt to reflect his experience of the world through the filter of his severe mental illness. John is also a published poet. Some of John’s most recent work in acrylic paint and crayon on screen printed backgrounds reflects an abstract expressiveness using organic forms painted and integrated with the graphic quality of screened images.
